The stellar growth of Precious has stalled considerably after four impressive weekends. The film, stagnant on 664 screens, fell 67% from Thanksgiving weekend, a sharper drop than any film in the top 10, including The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The film grossed an estimated $2,310,000, averaging $3,469 and taking its total to $36,280,000. Sharp drops aside, though, that's a substantially impressive cume - the highest for a specialty platform release this year.

This was all the more impressive coming in the midst of one of the most robust female-driven box office weekends in film history. "Precious" is now heading into the Thanksgiving frame - one of the most potent of the year - with $21,403,000 already in its pocket, a gross some wondered if it could ever even hit. It's quite possible the film could be pushing $50 million before the awards boosts of December even comes into play.

The Producers Guild of America have announced that Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire will be honored with the 2010 Stanley Kramer Award. The film's producers will be honored with the award at the 21st Annual PGA Awards ceremony on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Hollywood Palladium theatre, L.A. It was released only in less than 180 theatres with the result average 35.000 USD per theatre. The movie made 9 mil USD in 10 days. Mariah and Precious co-stars Gabourey Sidibe and Paula Patton visited the Canfield Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles on Monday morning to spend some time to read books to the Canfield kids. This school is a neighborhood community school that supports diversity and reflects the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic make-up of Los Angeles.

Producers Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry have reportedly instructed Lionsgate to put their promotional machine behind fellow stars Mariah Carey and Gabby Sidibe for the Oscar race. Those two are adept at playing the game; both turned up in New York and Toronto to push the film for free opposite of Mo'Nique (she requested $100,000 appearance fee).
